“Be strong when you are weak, brave when you are scared and humble when you are victorious”. This is a quote that inspires me during my toughest hours of playing cricket, from getting bowled on 49 to being run out after not facing ball. Cricket can be seen as a fickle sport as you can often feel all the elements are piled against you. I’ve grown a love-hate relationship with cricket as no one can take away the feeling of walking off the pitch with a 104 to your name but also can’t take away the shame of a drop catch.
During the 2017 pre-season I decided to make a move from Great Kingshill and set my sights on the senior teams at High Wycombe cricket club. I was thrown straight into the deep end and made my first team preseason debt on the Easter bank holiday vs Buckinghamshire 1st eleven. This was the start of a very long and successful season.
My highlight from the 2017 season has to be scoring 104 runs in a county game, this score and many others left me ranked 10th in the countries rankings for under 15’s cricketer. Another huge honour this season has to be making my first team Home Counties Premier debut for Wycombe 1st eleven.
This season has provided me with steep learning curves but I feel stronger from the experience and the lessons I’ve learnt, it’s made me even hungrier to purse my dream.
