Curriculum Overview

Media studies are a critical and historical study of film, television, journalism and web design. Media affects us all everyday, why not take it one step further and start to find out why we are influenced by the media.

Media is taught in the media suite which is well equipped with industry standard apple Macs.


Key stage 4:

This course involves a range of theory and practical based assessments.

Year 10: NQF BTEC in Creative Digital Media Production
External:
Unit 1: Digital Media Sectors & Audiences
Internal:
Unit 2: Planning & Pitching a Digital Media Product

One external exam sat in January and coursework for unit 2 which will be completed throughout the year. Coursework will consist of proposals, shooting scripts, essays, analysis, and storyboards, making documentaries, research, presentations and evaluation.

Year 11: NQF BTEC in Creative Digital Media Production
Internal
Unit 3: Digital Moving Image Production
Unit 5: Digital Publishing Production

Coursework looking at the different sectors of media, this is coursework that is completed in lessons and at home.

Year 12: BTEC Level 3 National Extended Certificate in Creative Digital Media Production

Students complete four  units over the two years. Units and assignments consist of research into different media industries, analysis on the movement of films, music video and documentary productions, proposals, presentations, shooting scripts, essays, storyboards and evaluations.

Unit 1: Media Representation
Unit 4: Pre-Production Portfolio

Year 13: BTEC Level 3 National Extended Certificate in Creative Digital Media Production

The media department also offer after school activities such as:

Yr10/11 catch up every Monday from 3.05pm-4.15pm

YR12/13 catch up every Thursday from 3:05pm – 4:15pm
