Curriculum Details

All students in Year 7 to Year 11 receive a broad, balanced, relevant and coherent curriculum. We strive to equip each student with the necessary intellectual, physical, cultural, emotional and moral skills and attitudes to enable them to face the adult world with confidence and honesty.

The school day is divided into 5 one hour lessons.  We operate a two week timetable providing 50 periods in a two-week cycle.

Each year the school and Governors review the curriculum offered at Key Stages.  The outcome of each review is to ensure that the range of courses reflects the needs of students and follows National Curriculum requirements. A recent review has resulted in a new course being developed for Y8 students to support the needs of the kinaesthetic learner.

Key Stage 3

In addition to English, Mathematics, Science, Physical Education, Religious Education and PSHCE all students study at least one Modern Foreign Language, History, Geography, Drama, Art & Design, Information Technology, Music and Design & Technology. 

Key Stage 4

Students are able to follow up to ten subjects at GCSE or the equivalent level.  A range of vocational courses is available to all students.  During Year 9 a consultation exercise between student, parents, teaching staff and the tutor ensures that a more individualised curriculum is chosen which best reflects the student’s ability, aptitude and interests. 

All students follow English, Mathematics, Science, PSHCE, Physical Education, Religious Education , and an Arts based course.  A wide range of options courses can be followed including:

Ceramics Dance

Vocational subjects are studied at Sir William Ramsay or in collaboration with other local education providers; students are transported to other sites for their study. Increased vocational opportunities and work-based learning are areas under current development within the school.
