Safeguarding
At Sir William Ramsay School, we are fully committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, ensuring that the highest priority is given to following guidance and regulations to safeguard all our students.
Governors' vision of safeguarding is:
- Which is centred on the needs of the child.
- Where a child can flourish at Sir William Ramsay School, safe from fear, exploitation or oppression.
- Which involves the participation of the whole school community.
- That learns from incidents and does not seek to blame, unnecessarily.
- Where everyone is confident and prepared to deal with the safety of the child.
Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is defined as:
- Protecting children from maltreatment.
- Preventing impairment of children's health or development.
- Ensuring that children grow up in circumstances consistent with the provision of safe and effective care.
- Taking action to enable all children to have the best outcomes
Information is shared on a ‘need to know’ basis when in the best interests of a child, this may be with staff internal to the school and/or external agencies at a level deemed necessary and appropriate. If it is felt a child is at significant risk of harm then parents/ careers may not be informed immediately.
