Support & Intervention at SWRS
Our student support and academic structures support the individual. Staff and students at SWR work closely together to promote a caring environment that encourages students to embody our school values of ambition, respect, resilience and reliability. We seek to build positive relationships with parents and carers and external agencies to ensure that each student receives the support and intervention which will enable them to be successful at Sir William Ramsay and beyond.
Every student at Sir William Ramsay is allocated to a tutor group when they join the school in year 7; their tutor will be their first point of contact for any day to day concerns that arise and a source of advice and guidance as they move from Years 7-13. Students in Years 12 and 13 are in vertical tutor groups containing a mix of students from each year group . This enables the sharing of valuable study skills and university/post-18 preparations. Each year group from Years 7-11 is managed by a Head of Year; Years 12 and 13 are managed by the Head of Sixth Form. The Heads of Year maintain an academic and behavioural overview of all students within their year group and will work with students, parents/carers and staff to identify and put in place timely support and intervention where it is needed. In addition, we have a team of Student Support Officers who work across the different year groups. They support students in dealing with a range of issues including academic challenges, friendship issues and concerns around behaviour and wellbeing. We have a dedicated Student Welfare Manager working within our Sixth Form. Concerns and problems from home are referred initially to the form tutor of the student and in more serious cases to the Head of Year or the Student Support Officers. The Support and Intervention Team works closely with the Senior Leadership Team, Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENDCo), Matron, Adviza and other external support agencies.
